South Africa, Philippi Village, 2017
You can ‘smell’ the poverty in the townships, you can see the unemployment, you feel considered as ‘target’ of criminality and are faced with the beggars’ addiction.
Just as many talents, doctors, engineers, dancers, artists and, professors are born in townships as in the Netherlands. They lack opportunities. We hope to create an opportunity based on Ubuntu by establishing an atelier in Philippi Village.
Ubuntu is compassion, unity and, solidarity. Unspoken words, respect, empathy, tolerance and, redistribution.
The Social Sofa South Africa tells the story about how there is always hope, always a new beginning, how we remain undaunted. ‘We from the North and the South’.
